This weekend is the last in our old shop in the Waikawa Marina. For a short time we will be of no fixed abode, but then opening at a new and much improved location and premises, right in the middle of Picton with more parking than you could poke a stick at.

On Saturday we have an Outer Sounds trip heading out with a few spots left and on Sunday a Inner Sounds trip. I also have plenty of bargain’s if you are after a bit of kit, including BCD’s,suits, cylinders and regulators, if you think buying on Trade-me is cheap then check out "Go Dives" prices first.

I know winter is on the way, but remember skiing is for the bunnies (sorry Lance and Simone) and the vis is far better when it is a little bit cooler, all you need is a nice warm Beaver or Otter. (Drysuits I am talking about) and happiness is assured.

DIVE REPORT

Well it is definitely Spring now and it looks like all the rain is behind us. The sea conditions have been pretty good this week and it looks like they are going to continue over the weekend.

Visibility in the Inner Sounds is down a bit as the water warms up and the plankton starts to grow, vis on the Koi wreck yesterday was around 6 metres. However vis in the outer sound is still very good, so this is the place to be this weekend if you are after some clear water diving.

Scallops are plentiful but not very fat so best left for another month until they get fat and juicy and worth taking. Although 90mm is the legal size, I find these far to small and not worth taking, how about leaving these small guys and gathering only scallops of 100mm an up.

DIVE REPORT

Its been a quite week on the diving front for us this week, as I have been in Wellington helping with the relocation of a friends dive shop and Nine has been down with the flu.

We did manage a few dives last weekend and were pleasantly surprised with visibility of up to 10 metres on the wreck of the Koi. The weather is looking a bit shaky again this weekend with gale force northerly winds again, which means the Outer Sounds dive sites are going to be marginal. Visibility although good in the Inner Sounds, is down to around 3-4 metres in the Eastern side of the Cook Straight, with a reasonably big ground swell, so it is probably not worth heading out in that direction this weekend.

However it will not be long before we can expect to see some real good vis on the Lermontov as September, October is the time of year it can open out to up to 30 metres visibility. So get your kit ready and keep an eye on our regular Friday reports. There is nothing like a few dives on one of the worlds best ship wrecks with that sort of vis.
