APEKS REGULATORS

Friday, August 27th, 2010

It’s been a while since my last blog, sorry about that all you dedicated bloggers. Reason being I have been a bit crook so not up to doing to much, especially diving.

Good news is that its nearly Spring, the daffodils are out and things are looking pretty damn good for the coming summer. I have just listed a job vacancy on the PADI web site and have been wading through dozens of email replies to the position. If your a PADI instructor looking for work then get in touch if your up for a summer of action in Picton.

Mikhail Lermontov Hammer and Sickle

FUNNEL OF THE MIKHAIL LERMONTOV

Our Poor Knights trip is all go for next weekend, really looking forward to that, especially doing a  few sea caves up their with Jamie Obern who has just returned from France where he got his Cave Diving Instructor rating. The week after were out to the Lodge with the Dive Shack for 4 days from the 9th to the 12th, they have had a couple just pull out from this trip, so if your keen for a few days out at the Lodge, diving the Lermontov during the clear water season let me know.

I have just landed the first shipment of Apeks regulators, which are technical divers regulator of choice. I have both the XTX100 for $1095.00 and the DS4 with XTX 40 second stage $795.00 available, both in 300 bar DIN. All with full warranty. These are pretty hot prices if you compare to what they cost in local dive shops and very comparable to what you might pay on the net by the time you land them in NZ, but with full warranty and back up service from a qualified technician.

Those who are members of the club will have just received the Spring Newsletter, which outlines the new developments at Port Gore, including the permanent basing of the boat out their and Tomo being permanent staff at the Lodge from October. Tomo will be running the Lodge for the summer including handling casual air fills for visiting divers and boats, plus providing meals and entertainment for guests at the Lodge. If your keen on a few days in one of New Zealand’s most remote and beautiful places then the Lodge is available for casual bookings from October on.

This weekend is looking bit average with northerly weather system looming, the boat is out of the water for a bit of pre season TLC, so no diving for us in Picton until the next Lodge trip.

Have a good weekend and dive safe if your going for a splash.

cheers

Brent

Weekend Dive Report

Friday, October 30th, 2009

It looks like we are in for another good weekend weather wise.

Mid week conditions have been a bit windy and have resulted in a  heavy swell through the straight, I suggest diving in the Inner Sounds or Northern entrance, as I can’t see the Tory Channel side being to pleasant until Monday.

I spoke to a chap today who pulled a 6.5 kg cray out of Bay of Many Coves, so it shows you don’t have to go miles to get some Kai. The cray was put back by the way.

JAMES AND LYN ON THE LERMONTOV

We will be heading out both days for Rescue training and hope to hit Cape Jackson on Sunday. The water temp is coming up slowly, averaging around 14 at the moment, just about tropical.

Its going to be a nice weekend so get out and enjoy it. I still have a few items at half price so drop in for a look, including air fill concessions cards that give $3.00 fills.

Weekend Report

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Been a  huge day today with lucky customers picking up some real bargains in our "yellow dot" half price sale and a full load of divers out on an Inner Sounds tour, plus the arrival and departure to the lerm Lodge of our weekend dive group.

For the first time in 6 weeks we can expect a half reasonable weekend with the the sun shining for at least two thirds of it.

The local vis has improved after a lot of rain in the last 2 weeks, the Outer Sounds visibility is looking pretty good also, so this weekend is the time for a bit of wreck exploration etc.

I’m out to the Lodge first thing tomorrow and are looking forward to another relaxing weekend with good company. There is still a lot of bargains left in the sale so if you are keen flick me an email or give me a call, since I am away this weekend I am happy to extend the sale to mid next week, but after that the yellow dots come off.

I also start a PADI Rescue course next weekend, 5 on it so far, but room for a couple more. This is a fun course, I have run heaps of these over the years and have cooked up some good scenarios etc, so expect the unexpected if doing a rescue course with Go Dive.

Well have a good weekend, if you don’t then you obviously aren’t diving, so get out their and have some fun.

cheers & safe diving

Brent

DIVING REPORT

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Finally a good weekend, after a run of average weekends the one ahead looks good for diving in Marlborough. We have big high planted right over the South Island so it looks like light SE winds for the weekend with clear sky’s.

Due to our IDC this week we haven’t ventured to far this week, but the vis is pretty good in-close, around 8 meters on the Koi. Water temp is a bit chilly still and running around 12, but that will change pretty quickly with the warmer days ahead.

Dive Marlborough

NOT LONG BEFORE WE WILL BE SUN BATHING BETWEEN DIVES AGAIN, ROLL ON SUMMER

It is only one week to go before our first club Kai-dive next Saturday and then underwater clean-up on the Sunday, still a few spots available and non club members get the Sundays dives at club price if you help with the first dive which is a clean-up dive.

The following week marks the official opening of our new shop in High Street Picton, so come in and check us out as well as the opening specials, also I will be more consistent with our Friday Specials and Dive Reports from now on, starting today.

Dive Report

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Well its another week closer to the opening of the scallop season and hopefully warmer weather. Going by the 33 degree temperatures the UK has been experiencing this week, it should be a beauty summer in NZ.

Mouli and Tika at Babelscribe have been busy over the last two weeks giving the Go Dive website a new look, you may have noticed it as you navigated through to the Blog page. I have added some new products and services onto the site and taken off some old stuff that was a bit out-dated. Check out the Google map on dive sites. Google Earth and Maps are a fantastic tool if your looking at traveling and want to see what the layout of the land looks like or find out where the local dive shops are.

This weekends weather looks a bit shabby again with 30knt South Easterlies predicted late Saturday. SE’s makes it a bit miserable around the Sounds and generally means drizzly conditions. I think I will be saving myself for the start of the Scolly season in a few weeks.

THIS WEEKS SPECIAL

CRESSI MC5 BLACK DIN REGULATOR

Ideal as a primary regulator or for twin of sling systems

Special price $410.00 (thats half price)

Well I’m off next week for a bit of R & R in Wanaka with the Tania and the kids, so no dive report or special next week. Have a good weekend and see some of you on the 18/19th when we round up some scallops. Still two spots available on the Saturday.

ANZAC weekend

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

This weekend is the last in our old shop in the Waikawa Marina. For a short time we will be of no fixed abode, but then opening at a new and much improved location and premises, right in the middle of Picton with more parking than you could poke a stick at.

On Saturday we have an Outer Sounds trip heading out with a few spots left and on Sunday a Inner Sounds trip. I also have plenty of bargain’s if you are after a bit of kit, including BCD’s,suits, cylinders and regulators, if you think buying on Trade-me is cheap then check out "Go Dives" prices first.

I know winter is on the way, but remember skiing is for the bunnies (sorry Lance and Simone) and the vis is far better when it is a little bit cooler, all you need is a nice warm Beaver or Otter. (Drysuits I am talking about) and happiness is assured.

Sorry didn’t have dive photo, so this what you get when  divers inter breed.

Cheers Brent
