MAKE AN OFFER SPECIAL

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

I  have reversed roles with Tania my wife this weekend and am going to enjoy a weekend home with the kids. Unfortunately Tania thinks I have to much stock in the shop and wants to quit some of it, so come on in and make an offer on anything in stock.

DIVE REPORT

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Its been a bit of an up and down week weather wise and unfortunately we are finishing it on a downer. Monday looks like the best day to venture further out with a Southerly due Saturday and expected to get to 40 odd knots tonight.

Visibility in the Outer Sounds is no to bad, with up to 8 meters on the Lermontov which is a bit below average for this time of year so once things settle we may see it increase a bit more. Inner Sounds visibility is a bit up and down so worth looking around, I heard a report that there was up to 30 metres vis in Blackwood Bay not long ago, so it is worth looking around a  bit as this is the time of year we we get upwellings and there can be some very good patches of clear water.

Labour weekend spells the start of the summer diving season for many, I am looking forward to a really good summer, its a great feeling to know all that winter weather is behind us for another 6 months.

cheers

CONGRATULATIONS TO LEEANN LEADBETTER

Leeann completed her PADI Open-water course early last week. Pictured here during her last dive, which we done off the Waikawa Marina seawall. Although a shore dive this can be a great dive given the right conditions. During our 2 dives at this site we were treated to schooling Yellow Eye Mullets, an Eagle Ray, Stargazer and up to 8 metres of visibility.

Leeann, (top picture) bottom one being a grumpy Stargazer, mastered the skills of her Open water course very quickly, other than her natural skills and confidence, Dive Marlborough’s policy of small student to instructor ratios helped Leeann develop far quicker than with larger groups of students. There-fore allowing more time for underwater exploration and time to practice buoyancy control.

DIVE REPORT

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Looks like the best two days of the week for diving are going to be Saturday and Sunday for a change.  Forecast for tomorrow is 20knts of Nor West going 25knts South West late in the arvo, so its going to be good everywhere.  Sunday is going to be even better with the wind dying down to 15 Knts of Northerly.

Visibility is good in the Inner Sounds and predicted to be even better out further. We haven’t been out to far this week to tell the vis, but have a charter tomorrow to the Lermontov, where I predict the vis will be 15 meters at least.

Have a good weekends diving.

DIVE REPORT

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

It’s been a bit of a changeable week weather wise,  this is quite normal for this time of year. To start the week off we had a South Westerly weather pattern with visibility in the Inner Sounds down to 5/6 metres due to rain. Mid-week we saw the pattern change to a north, nor westerly, which is going to gradually increase to 50 knots Saturday. For those who are familiar with the area, that means diving the Outer Sounds is going to be pretty much out for Saturday. Over-night Saturday we will see a change to a South Westerly which will bring cooler and wet conditions with 25 knots of wind for Sunday.

My pick for the weekend would be a dive in the lee of the Inner Sounds or Tory channel on Saturday and maybe venture out to the Marine Reserve at Long Island for a Sunday dive.

Expect the vis to be down a bit due to choppy surface conditions and a Northerly swell rolling into the Northern entrance. Have a good weekend and  make sure your got a good anchor and boat person if your heading out a bit.

Cheers Brent
