DIVE REPORT

Its been a quite week on the diving front for us this week, as I have been in Wellington helping with the relocation of a friends dive shop and Nine has been down with the flu.

We did manage a few dives last weekend and were pleasantly surprised with visibility of up to 10 metres on the wreck of the Koi. The weather is looking a bit shaky again this weekend with gale force northerly winds again, which means the Outer Sounds dive sites are going to be marginal. Visibility although good in the Inner Sounds, is down to around 3-4 metres in the Eastern side of the Cook Straight, with a reasonably big ground swell, so it is probably not worth heading out in that direction this weekend.

However it will not be long before we can expect to see some real good vis on the Lermontov as September, October is the time of year it can open out to up to 30 metres visibility. So get your kit ready and keep an eye on our regular Friday reports. There is nothing like a few dives on one of the worlds best ship wrecks with that sort of vis.

WELCOME TO THE FIRST OF OUR FRIDAY SPECIALS AND DIVE REPORT

Every Friday afternoon we will be posting a special deal on some kit and a dive conditions report. Starting this week with Cressi Facile suits.

The Facile is a very stylish Italian 1 piece 7mm semi-dry suit. It has an attached hood and has a WSS system for total protection against water infiltration. Suitable for Scuba or free diving.

Special lasts until stocks are gone. Currently in stock we have Men’s, sizes, 2, (Xsml) 3 (sml)  and 5 (med) and Ladies 2, (8), 3 (10), 4(12)and 5 (14)

Suggested retail price is $525.00 special price while stocks last $199.00

DIVE CONDITIONS REPORT

The weather this week has been pretty up and down, which can be expected for this time of year. The water temp is hovering around 11 degree’s. Visibility at the Koi wreck is around 6 metres, Kumototo Point up to 10 metres. We haven’t been able to get out to the Lermontov this week so aren’t able to report on conditions their. However there has is a 2 metre southerly swell so Tory Channel entrance would be rather messy and given the wind coming from a Northerly direction all week Cape Jackson and Port Gore would be marginal.

Have a good dive if your venturing out. We are heading out at 1pm tomorrow so if your keen for a dive give us a call on 0800GODIVE.

Scallop Dive

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Becky and Dave surface from today’s Scallop Dive

It might be cold but any dive with the same amount of ascents as descents is a good dive and if you can collect a few scallops for dinner at the same time, what more can you ask for.

We’ve just arrived back from our first scallop dive for the season and although this is the coldest time of the year and it was raining cats and dogs when we started the first dive, the sun was shining when we surfaced and to add to the pleasure of diving on a wreck, collecting scallops for tea, we were treated to a swim by from a big pod of Bottlenose dolphins. Sure beats sitting in the office or in front of the TV.

If your in the market for some new kit, then keep an eye open for a blog adverting some super cheap equipment deals towards the end of this week. Also our new club page is now up and running so go to www.godive.co.nz click on The Dive Club Marlborough link and see how you can join this active dive club.

DIVE LEADERSHIP INTERNSHIP

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

With summer just around the corner Dive Marlborough are now taking enquires from those interested in a career in the Dive Industry. Currently there is a huge shortage for PADI Dive Professionals in the Asia Pacific region, with Dive Centres both in NZ and the Cooks islands being just a few that have contacted us recently looking for staff.

Being successful as a dive professional is reliant on your training. Dive Marlborough is the only facility in this region that offers internship training through to PADI instructor. Included in this internship are dives on one of the worlds biggest ship wrecks the Mikhail Lermontov, training from AOW through to Instructor, including enriched air and technical dive training.

We take only a few per summer on our internship courses, and have a 100% success rate on instructor examinations. For more details check out our web site for individual courses or email us at godive@xtra.co.nz for more info.

PADI Instructor Development Course Rarotonga

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Congratulations to Rebecca Nicholls, Simone Schreck, Katerine Ross and Jack Sutton, all of whom have just successfully completed their PADI IDC and Instructor Examinations in the Cook Islands with Dive Rarotonga and Brent McFadden of GODIVE NZ.

The IDC in Rarotonga has been an annual event for Dive Rarotonga and Course Director Brent McFadden for a number of years now. It is tribute to the relaxed environment, warm clear waters and hard work by a group of committed young and not so young diving professionals, that our 100% IDC/IE success rate has been maintained.

The PADI Instructor Development process is the most sort after and respected programmes in the world of diving. There is no doubt, it takes commitment, attitude and hard work to successfully complete the programme. That’s why completing the programme in the right environment is all so important, worrying about being cold or not being able to control others during presentations due to poor visibility, unfairly penalizes candidates and makes the process just hard work. While NZ suffered from cold winter conditions, water temps suitable for dry suit divers only and poor visibility, the group enjoyed temps of 24 degrees and visibility reaching an incredible 70 metres.

Not only is it the warm temperatures that help produce such high results, it is the ability to unwind at the end of a busy day by strolling down the beach in the evening while enjoying blood red sunsets and the relaxed (almost to relaxed) lifestyle of the islanders.

The Cooks are a very easy country to visit with currency being the NZ dollar and regular twice daily flights from Auckland and soon Aussie, they still hold traditional values such as no trading on Sundays etc.

On completion of the IDC, Brent run an EFR Instructor course for Sarsha and Patrick two local PADI Instructors, this will enable them to run First Aid courses for the locals and diving customers.

Keep an eye open for our 2009 IDC calendar on www.godive.co.nz or www.diverarotonga.com I think you will find our IDC packages very attractive.
