KAIKOURA COAST DIVE TOURS:

Bookings for Kaikoura Coast Dive tours can be made through GoDive or directly through our Kaikoura booking agent Dive Kaikoura.

Kaikoura is world renown for its marine wildlife, the up-wellings and nutrient rich waters not only support an abundance of marine mammals such as whales, dolphins and seals, but a complex and colorful ecosystem of invertebrate and vertebrate underwater life.

Baxters Reef

A beach dive with a short swim out to a shallow reef on the Kaikoura Peninsula. Maximum depth on this dive will be around 12 metres and you will see crayfish, reef fish as well as kelp gardens.

Suitable for new divers and ideal for photography.

Old Wharf

A popular diver training site and old whaling station.

A shore dive with a very short swim out to shallow reefs covered in kelp gardens. Maximum depth on this dive will be around 8 metres with the chance to see crayfish, paua, this area is part of a marine reserve so expect to see a good representation of temperate water fish species.

An ideal dive for new or inexperienced divers.

Barnys Rock

Barnys Rock is a short drive south of Kaikoura and is named after Barny Riley who was a whale spotter back in the days of whaling in the region. Barny used the rock as a viewing point to spot the whales off shore, the rock itself sits very close to the continental shelf and supports a huge amount of invertebrate life due to the upwelling of nutrients.

F1000004

Barnys rock is also one of many breeding colonies for the New Zealand Fur seals, who lounge around on the rock platforms. Barnys Rock is a boat dive, you will depart from South Bay a 15 minute boat trip, during the dive we circumnavigate the rock clockwise, reaching a depth of around 16 metres. This is one of the best dives along the Kaikoura coast and well worth bringing along your camera.

An ideal dive for all divers.

For more information on these dives contact Go Divenz or our booking agent Dive Kaikoura.
